Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed previous sections on solving and graphing linear inequalities, as well as inequalities with absolute value. We used practice problems, but found those offered at grade 7 & 8 levels were too easy for the student. Instead we worked on problems found in the Algebra 2 competencies for 9th graders, which was a better challenge for him (graphing inequalities in 2-dimensions)."
"Today, we went over the student's review work out of her textbook. She showed that she is ready to do well on her test. She did a great job remembering how to tackle the specific word problems and what situations require a plus and minus when taking a root to solve an equation. She was able to simplify every expression with rational exponents and solve any equation as well. She did a great job graphing and describing the translations in root functions. She did even better at operations with functions this week than last week. She seemed very confident for her test tomorrow."
"This session we had our second quiz on negative numbers. The student did much better than on her first quiz. We created some additional flash cards so that she would be able to thoroughly quiz herself on the material. We also continued working on coordinate geometry. I asked her to make some flash cards and to review some word problems for homework."
"We prepared for the student's final exam in mathematical statistics by reviewing her last mid-term, covering joint pdf's and functions of random variables."
"Today's session was spent going over the student's makeup work for IB Math. The concepts revolved around arithmetic and geometric sequences."
"We went over Euler's Method, calculation of volume by rotation when the area is not adjacent to the axis of rotation, and slope fields."
