Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on a practice ACT math test and completed half of the problems. She is improving on the word problems and geometry problems. She worked on techniques to improve her speed and utilize the bubble answer sheet most efficiently."
"The student and I continued our PSAT practice by working through three more sections together: one reading, one math, and one writing. On all three sections, she performed well in roughly the same time frame as will be given on the actual PSAT; however, on the reading section, she needed the most help and reminders to hurry on the reading section. I have asked her to complete a full practice PSAT on her own, adhering strictly to the time limit. We will review her performance in our final session on Sunday."
"The student worked on a homework assignment covering: models, data plots, real world data seniors, quartic functions, cubic functions, quadratic functions, and linear functions. She caught on really well, and seemed to understand the instruction when it was first spoken. I think she will be a quick learner and hopefully we can get her to passing in precal! I know she has it in her."
"We brainstormed and outlined a letter to an author of a book the student read for her English class. We also developed a character for her drama class and created a web chart of her internal and external characteristics."
"The student and I finished the rest of the endocrinology PowerPoint today. We reviewed the hypophysis, the difference between the hormones secreted by the anterior an posterior pituitary, the releasing hormones secreted by the hypothalamus, as well as the thyroid, pancreas, kidney and parathyroid glands. We also discussed the application of certain hormonal conditions such as diabetes and Cushing's Syndrome."
"The student and I read through his book some more in order to prep him for a quiz he has tomorrow. We also worked through the definition of mean as an alternate definition for average and worked through various problems surrounding means. Last we worked on a letter that had to use L words for verbs."
"The student and I worked through an algebra worksheet on multi-step equations and a science worksheet on genetics and heredity. The algebra problems are getting noticeably more complicated, but he is doing a good job of keeping up and getting a better feel for the order of manipulating parts of an equation. He's also making progress on being careful with signs when adding/subtracting and multiplying/dividing."
"Reviewed all topics that will be covered on exam. Focused particularly on Molecular Orbitals and Enthalpies of Formation. The student did very well! There are a few areas he has to go over again before the test but he is confident with the mechanics and problem solving. He is in a good position going into the test."
"This was a really strong session for the student. I suggested that he try a different approach to the reading sections and I think the improvement was almost instantaneous. I think he will perform well when he takes the test in a few weeks time."
"This session went well. The student had a bonus assignment where he had to explain using the Bernoulli principle the occurrences of a lab he did in class. He said he had an exam on thermodynamics. He was assigned to read about thermodynamics and simple harmonic motion. I will check in on him this week and see if we could do another session."
"The student and I corrected most of a math practice test that I assigned to her. She didn't do that great yet, but we haven't gotten through all of the topics. She definitely improved. I assigned some reading and science for the 4th weekend."
"I worked with the student during this session. I helped her do some homework in math. The topic was working with functions and inverse functions. Problems approached the topic from both a graphical and an equation point-of-view."
