Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"My second GMAT tutoring session with the student went well. We started by reviewing the questions that he was challenged by on his practice exam. He had difficulty with questions involving geometry, exponents, square roots, averages, functions, number lines, and number properties. As we worked through the problems, he understood how to find the correct answers and why they were the best choices. The student also noted that he found the questions included the official GMAT review books easier than in other workbooks, but he did not perform as well as he would have hoped on the official GMAT practice exam. I suggested that since he seems to be skilled in solving problems when studying and practicing on his own, he should work on honing his test taking strategies. I encouraged him to focus on reading each question carefully, making sure he knows what each question is asking for, using process of elimination, and writing down notes instead of trying to answer complex questions in his head. This will help him to avoid mistakes that would lower his score and not accurately represent his mathematical aptitude. For our next tutoring session, he will take another practice exam. He will also continue working through questions in the prep guide."
"I covered difficult math problems involving exponents, geometry, and ratios with the student. Overall, she has improved her ability to analyze GMAT math questions. I encouraged her to take a practice test in order to assess her progress. I recommended that she review all of the problems that we covered so far."
"We did our final recap tonight by doing timed drills on areas of the GMAT that the student missed in his practice exams. He will continue to practice both verbal and quant questions on his own (focusing on sentence correction and inference CR questions) before his GMAT test on the 24th."
