Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished going over chapter 5 together, and worked out lots of examples. He didn't finish the geometry or ACT homework from the previous sessions, so I had to reassign it as homework this time. We were able to finish reviewing the English ACT exam, and will review the Reading Comprehension ACT exam tomorrow."
"Today, we went through questions on surface area and volume and started reviewing all the material we have covered. He did well on the difficult problems involving surface area and volume. For the review, we covered proofs, segments, angles, and deductive reasoning. He did a very nice job with all of these. He has a review sheet I made for him covering these topics along with triangles to finish by next time."
"Today the student and I went over some geometry for his quiz tomorrow, then I spent the last 15 minutes or so going over some vocab that he needed to know for the quiz. I again feel like he could receive and A+ on this quiz. Oh and he did in-fact get an A+ on the first quiz."
"We went over part of chapter 1 then started where we left off on chapter 2. We went over complement and supplement angles. We went over more proofs, how to justify proofs, and a couple of postulates. We ended on chapter 2 section 4."
"Today's session with the student went really well. We worked more out of her practice book, which focused on triangles again, but we started solving more complicated angle problems where she had to start using her theorems. She is doing great and will not have much trouble next year. No extra practice problems. No concerns from this session."
"We worked on the student's Geometry homework which covered points, lines, and planes. We then studied for his geometry quiz on induction and points/lines/planes. The student understood the points/lines/planes concepts well, but struggled with identifying patterns in the induction section."
"The student and I worked on classifying numbers as rational versus irrational. We also worked on simplifying complex numbers. The student confidently and correctly answered each question and I believe that he will perform well on his assessment this week."
"Today reviewed a quiz that he took in geometry. He did not have any homework with the subject, but he did show me his current grades for the class. The average was in the upper 90's%. We also went over a lab that he had in chemistry. We discussed histograms, graphs and examples of interpolation of the data shown in graphs."
"Tonight I worked with the student on reviewing the first two sections of geometry for her quiz on Friday. The first section covered the definitions of a point, segment, ray, and line. She knows the definitions and can identify or draw an example of each. This section also covered midpoint and segment addition, which she didn't have any difficulty with. What was challenging was angle addition, which was covered in the second section. We went through some examples in the book, her notes from the teacher and her homework. After the problems were set up, she was able to finish solving. So, we went through several problems from the book to work on how to set up the problems and then solve. I saw improvement during the session but she likely will need to work on a few more practice problems to be confident in the material."
"Covered Sect. 2.1: Using Inductive Reasoning to Make Conjectures; did Sect. 2.1 Worksheet problems #1 - #8, Sect. 3.2: Angles Formed by Parallel Lines and Transversals; did Sect. 3.2 problems on p. 159; Sect. 3.3: Proving Lines Parallel."
"We worked through a homework sheet covering the basics of proofs (mostly algebraic). For comprehension purposes, we focused on understanding and practice and completed the worksheet to ensure that the student was comfortable with these types of problems."
"We went over the questions they needed to go over from a quiz. We practiced problems similar to those questions and prepared for their test tomorrow."
