Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on going through complicated word problems and figuring out what was necessary to solve them. We also did some brain teasers and logic puzzles."
"Today, the student and I covered counting by 2s, 5s, 10s; we also covered greater than and less than. After that, we covered basic addition and subtraction skills."
"Today we began by discussing what the student needs to work on during our future sessions. The student's mother said she is doing great in school, she just needs to be challenged more. To decide where we should start, I began discussing multiplication facts with her. Our first session, she already learned multiplication facts for 0, 1, 2, and 3. Also, I asked her to work on problems with estimating, and she had some trouble with this so we will focus on this more in the future. For extra practice, I told the student and her mom they could make flash cards with the multiplication facts we had already discussed so she can practice during the week."
"The student and I went over some additional practice problems over arithmetic and geometric sequences, histograms, and functions. She advised that she currently has a 94 in math."
"The student and I used several of the games on the site focusing on geometry and measurement. We introduced Calculation Nation as a well-designed NCTM resource and the student practiced movements on the plane. We then moved to practice general NWEA-like questions. The student enjoyed the games and did well with questions 1-7. We will continue these next time, probably doing some questions first. I encouraged the student to use the games out of session."
"Today was a good session. We have gone over quite a bit of information in the last week and a half and the student is retaining very well. She individually uses concepts from previous sessions to help with answering questions pertaining to newer concepts. It is clear that she is studying, which is great considering tomorrow will be our last session before her placement exam. Today we reviewed the last set of practice problems I left her with. Any mistakes that were made, she figured out the problem and came up with the correct solution. Today's concepts included imaginary numbers, functions, domain and range, the discriminant, and factoring squared variables. She used previous concepts and breezed through today's session. I left her with quite a few practice problems, which we will go over before a post example placement review."
