Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on preparing him for his math exam the following day. To accomplish this, we reviewed how to factor polynomials, using a variety of techniques. Since we have reviewed this idea numerous times in sessions prior, this session consisted of a lot of review as well as a lot of practice problems. At the end of the session, he had a very good understanding of this material and felt very confident going into this test. He said that this was the most confident he's ever felt about a test for math. Additionally, he has shown improvement in the form of an assignment. As always, this session was very productive and I look forward to working with him again soon."
"Yesterday the student and I went over a review sheet for his chapter 8 algebra test, focusing on graphing and equations for lines. Conceptually he did pretty well with the problems, especially when he had a set of steps to work through."
"Today we worked through more polynomial practice. We worked on finding roots of polynomials via the California method as well as doing the opposite function using FOIL. I will be making quizzes for max to work on and I would like him to continue to take the online EOC quizzes daily to keep his endurance up!"
"We went over some homework problems to help the student prepare for her final at the end of the week--including slope-intercept forms of linear equations, knowing whether there is 1 solution, or none, or many, to a given equation; identifying correct parabola equations from a graph; and so on. I noticed last week that she makes a lot of mistakes in adding and subtracting signed numbers, so I took some time at the end of the session to review that with her."
"The student did homework that reviewed for his test on Thursday. Conveniently, most of the problems dealt with graphing inequalities, a topic I wanted to focus on reviewing for his exam. Conceptually speaking, he already understands it; he just needed some assistance pointing out when he makes small errors so he can keep those in mind so he avoids them when he's actually taking his exam."
"The student and I spent the majority of the session reviewing multi-step algebraic equations, which is the area he struggles with most. He still makes frequent mistakes with his positive and negative signs on these problems, and sometimes still does the wrong operation to solve them. We'll continue to work on these until he consistently solves these problems correctly."
