"Today we went over accounts receivable, allowances, discounts, bad debt -direct method and allowances for doubtful accounts and calculating net sales. We then went over and explained chapter 5 terminology."
"Today the student and I focused on Chapter 7 - Cost Volume Profit Analysis. This chapter essentially takes most of the concepts from the previous chapter and expands their application to decision-making. The student and I went through/discussed the differences between the contribution margin approach to income statements versus the traditional GAAP approach (categorizing costs by behavior vs. function). The student retained the majority of the material that we covered from the last session, so we are well on our way towards succeeding on this exam. The student should focus on remembering the different equations used in this chapter (break-even/target profit formula; CM % - etc.) because they are going to be extremely important moving forward. The student is going to work through the practice problems and contact me if he has any difficulties. Tomorrow we will address any problems he may have had with the additional problems and get started working through chapter 8."
"We went over a bunch of problems the student needed help with before his midterm. Sometimes he focuses too much on memorizing, as opposed to understanding the concepts, so I try to get him away from that by using simple examples and having practice problems without formula sheets. He has a lot of practice through the review sheets that he has been getting from his teacher. He is a good student."
