Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was the first session. We began by discussing what his goals were for learning the language. He wants to reach spoken fluency in Spanish so that he can communicate with his clients better. He will be spending a considerable amount of time in Latin America, so this is the variety that he wants to learn. He also expressed that he was not as interested in learning how to read and write in Spanish. I went over some of my top language learning strategies with him, such as watching television in Spanish and listening to songs. I also directed him to a website which had an array of Spanish learning tools. Today we went over the pronunciations of the letter "a" and I also briefly reviewed the Spanish alphabet and letter sounds. I also recommended him a system to purchase for independent practice. The next session I will review the system and design our weekly lessons."
"I spent the majority of my session with Student 1. He didn't have any specific Spanish homework, so we prepared for his upcoming vocabulary quiz. We then worked on some reading comprehension, using the vocabulary words he'd be quizzed on the following day. I left him with vocabulary homework only: study his words so he'll do well on his quiz. I spent the remaining time with Student 2. He didn't do well on a vocabulary quiz, so I worked with him on studying the words. He is naturally gifted with language - he picks Spanish up quickly - but he doesn't know quite how to study. As a result, for homework, I've asked him to rewrite key components of his chapter, preparing him to write an outline of the chapter, so as to provide him one method of studying. Throughout our remaining time together, I'll introduce other ways to study Spanish, too."
"We reviewed present tense verb conjugation for all 3 verbs, We went over and corrected the assignments out of the workbook, and she learned interrogative words to create simple sentences."
