Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student and instructor reviewed household vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions of greeting from student's school list. A brief review of the present tense conjugations of several verbs indicated that student has an improved grasp of these forms. Instructor assigned student to read a "Condorito" comic from a book provided by tutor."
"Today we started off in their textbook. We reviewed the colors. I asked in Spanish "How do you say _________ in English?" In the blank I would put the color name in Spanish and they would have to say what it was in English. We usually do it the other way around, so this was new and it turned out well. We went on to form different sentences saying, "I have a [color's name] [object]." We did T-shirts, sweaters, backpacks, and other objects and many colors. We also learned how to say "My favorite color is ________" in Spanish. Afterwards, I asked them to give me five words they know in Spanish. Then we looked at the dictionary with lots of images to talk about different objects in a kitchen. Sometimes I would have them point out the item in the book and sometimes in the kitchen where we take classes."
"This session the students' parent ordered Little Pim for them to use with me. We began the session watching a portion of the Little Pim video. While we were watching, I introduced some high frequency words by asking them in Spanish "How do you say...." and telling them to "listen" and "repeat". Then, we went over ten flash cards that contained some of the vocabulary from the video they watched. Next we moved to the alphabet. I brought an alphabet chart with a pointer to go over the alphabet with them, saying it letter by letter. Then, we sang the alphabet song twice."
