Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Well, I am excited to say the student got his second highest score in Math, 87. He is quite proud and so I am. We going to keep pushing by learning subtraction rule negative rules!"
"The student and I played a game entitled "snap it". The focus of the game is to come up with an equation to make a number chosen from a stack of cards. We used addition, subtraction and multiplication to come up with equations. I prompted her to use the number line and to write out problems when she got stuck instead of using fingers. She began to figure out equations in her head toward the end of the game and used more multiplication, making it a 3 step equation instead of 2. Her mother provided information on specific skills that will be covered in school for the second half of the semester. I will use the information to continue to plan sessions."
"The student and I discussed her math homework for her new unit. We covered some review (i.e. fractions and integers) and reviewed homework from her other classes."
"The student and I worked on models with cubes as 3D figures. She did excellent on solving them and finding the volume! We also reviewed more 3D figures from Tuesday, and she is doing so well at finding the faces, edges and vertices. We ended with a few VERY hard division problems and she got them 100% correct! She is definitely improving in her skills and her confidence!"
"I am currently working with the student in more advanced problem solving, including using tree diagrams. He is illustrating the concept extremely well and is becoming more independent when solving the problems."
"The student and I continued working on fractions using her homework as our practice. We started with a review problem from the last session naming fractions using a number line, which she did well on. She completed her homework, part of which was naming improper fractions using shapes. The word problem on her homework she grasped very well. In our last 15 minutes we used the online sites for additional practice."
