"The student's math teacher sent home another practice test with 20 assorted concept-based problems. We went through all of them, creating a study guide with steps and concepts broken down. I saw he needed more work with finding the equation of a line, so we also did a relevant lesson on this topic. We also spent a while working with equations and inequalities, especially those with fractions or decimals."
"Student needs some work on math foundations, which we covered and practiced some tonight. With some practice and a better understanding of certain algebra concepts, I think the student will see improvement on his tests."
"The student received an 86% on his math test! Since he just had a math test, we focused on chemistry. We worked on pressure conversions and using Boyle's law and Charles' law to solve for volume and temperature respectively. He was able to answer the problems involving Boyle's law accurately but struggled a bit on determining that the question involved the use of Charles' law. After we discussed his mistake, he was able to answer the rest of the questions independently."
"We covered slopes today - the main concept of change of y/change of x or rise/run. I taught her how to determine slopes and y intercepts graphically and use these to write a linear equation and vice versa (graphing given an equation). She was relatively comfortable with everything. Since this is new material, she needs to make sure she refers back to the notebook for notes and examples when she is doing her homework. She needs to do the unfinished homework from last time and the new homework I assigned."
"The student completed his homework. It focused on the same type of algebra equations that we worked on last week. He is getting much better at solving them and needs less and less of my help. In particular, he is very good at combining like terms and isolating variables on one side of the equation. We also reviewed how to multiply fractions yesterday, and that went very well. He understood that it can be thought of as multiplying by one number and then dividing by another number, and he remembered that throughout the whole session. Algebra is a big step up in difficulty from arithmetic, so I think that this class will challenge him, but he is doing great so far and improves every week."
"We worked on pre-AP algebra. The student had homework on multi step inequalities. He worked through his homework and then did some extra practice on the topic. He was excited to start understanding the types of problems after having some trouble understanding at school. He is a bright student and will do well."
