Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed all of the hypothesis testing (mean vs. proportion, t-test vs. z-test) and introduced the idea of using hypothesis testing for linear regression slopes. She worked on connecting proportion tests and t-distributions and she eventually made the connection. She is continuing to work on her understanding of the overall concepts, but is making improvements every week. We will soon start on reviewing the course in its entirety."
"Reviewed confidence intervals, hypothesis testing (what are the null vs. alternative hypotheses), understanding of the normal distribution, how to calculate z scores and use the table to look up critical values for the z and t test."
"Worked with client on basic inferences as well as the basics of t-tests and z-tests. Client had some trouble with which equations to use, but picked up towards the end of our session."
"We covered testing the null hypothesis against the alternative hypothesis and finding p-values for z-star scores. We worked on homework problems in preparation for the student's quiz Wednesday, and we celebrated his last passing test grade."
"Today we covered hypothesis testing, which is pretty involved. Discussed each of the steps (verifying conditions, calculating SD, calculating z-score, finding p-value) and the precise wording that goes with each inference."
"The student finished the review exercise. During this session, we worked with simplifying rational expressions. In the process, we reviewed factoring and how to handle fractions. The student seems to have a very good understanding on rational expressions."
"We went through her review problem set for her math test tomorrow. I checked in on her social studies quizzes from this week."
"We covered chain rule, power rule, and product rule. I showed how the summation relates to the integral. We went over missed questions on the previous unit test."
"We worked on trig identities and using them to simplify trig functions. We proved the cofunction ids and showed how to derive the Pythagorean identities, then used them to simplify various functions."
"Today we covered factoring polynomials, synthetic substitution and synthetic division. The student received her test score from two weeks back and showed improvement. She will have a quiz tomorrow which we will discuss next week."
"The student has a quiz coming up on quadratic equations. He had to estimate coefficients based on the graph and also plot the graph based on the equations. We had to use completing the square and sometimes the quadratic formula to solve these equations."
"The student was working on math worksheets with a combination of fraction concepts. We reviewed concepts he needed assistance with. We also set goals and a plan for him to complete his work for the day."
