Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on math, specifically going over diagnostic questions and using them as a jumping point to review math content. We went over square roots, ratios/percents, Right triangles (special triangles), circles, and some common polygons. The student seemed to struggle with square roots, so I spent some extra time going over them, but after I gave him a few practice problems and he picked up the material well. I recommend reviewing the equation sheet for the ACT/SAT exams and making sure he is very familiar with all the material, and letting me know if he wants to go over any in particular."
"This session we looked at a practice English test. Her performance on this test was pretty good, but from what I can tell it seems like she has the potential to improve on this section more than any other. Her grasp on the English language (mechanics, general style) is pretty strong, she just needs to focus on the questions in a different way in order to better discern what the best answer is. We are looking at how to do this mainly by comparing the answer choices in order to discover what the test-makers are testing us on (verb tense, redundancy, specificity, etc.) and then focusing on that aspect of the passage and answer choices. Next session we will finish looking at this English test and then move on to looking at a Reading test."
"We worked on ACT Science today. We went over a practice section that he had prepared and did some more problems. We talked about strategies like saving the dueling scientists passages for last and summarizing the experiment and each question. He will take a Reading practice test for next time,"
