"We covered homework in geometry. Many exercises required calculations of arc lengths of circles given the arc angles.
The basic strategy is to always convert arc angles to radians (using 2pi radians = 360 degrees formula) and then multiply by the radius to get the arc length.
We also worked through a problem of the perimeter (length) of a belt going around two circles of unequal radius.
The student has shown very quick wit and vision in estimating soughtafter quantities, if in approximate form. Finding estimates is very useful for quick estimations. This also shows that the student is comfortable with the subject matter and has a good "feel" for it."

"We worked on new material tonight, the areas of different polygons. The student was able to work through the problems with minimal assistance mostly on the more difficult algebra problems. She understands the area formulas and how to use them and showed quick mental math skill. She was able to complete her assignments during our session and we even discussed some of her upcoming topics."
"The student and I went through a practice sheet to an upcoming quiz involving problems utilizing congruence and similarity of triangles, the setup of a system of equations within a diagram with multiple triangles and rectangles cut within them to solve for two unknowns using two equations to ultimately find initially unimaginable side lengths, and many area problems, some involving the use of special triangles to build exact values to sides. While some problems were solved utilizing corresponding angles and sides of triangles, proving similarity, we also talked about solving the same problems in a different way, sometimes using trigonometry. She handled this very well and is understanding the logic and setup of these types of problems."
"We did a lot more practice with 306090 triangles. The student became more and more confident about her ability to understand problems with these types of triangles quickly. In addition, I continued helping her prioritize her assignments because she does have so much to do before the week is over. I helped her edit her history essay and gave her guidance on how to finish the rest of the essay. In addition, we came up with a study plan for her test at the end of the week. She completed half her study guide with me and would complete the other half tomorrow."
"It was great to hear that the student got yet another A on his last test, which was on Chapter 10. He also showed me his video project that he made with friends last week. Between the test and project, I can see that he has a real understanding on the sine, cosine, and tangent. So today we worked on sections 11.1 through 11.4 which covered circles, and these sections focused on chords, segments, tangents, arcs, etc. The session was spent on four challenge problems as they were very new concepts to him. As we went through the first challenge problem, he realized that it was nothing more than right triangle problems that happened to be tied to circles. He ended up finding the problem on the much easier side. The second problem still dealt with right triangles properties; however, it required some critical thinking along with algebra that he has done in a while (factoring out a quadratic equation). I helped him by asking him questions and referencing his book so that he is able to solve the other homework problems on his own. The third problem was a completely new concept as it dealt with measurement of arcs. However, he managed well. The fourth problem was definitely the most advanced one he have worked on so far. It involved many new theorems and again critical thinking. I wanted him to understand and solve it using the material from the book, and we were successful."
"The student has a test on Friday so we wanted to make sure he was ready for it. We completed a review on finding the area of a regular polygon using the apothem. He still needs to continue doing practice problems so that he can feel more confident when he has to find the area. We also reviewed finding the arc length, area of a sector, circumference and area of a circle."
