Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I reviewed implicit differentiation and logarithmic differentiation. We covered key problems suggested by her professor from the text. We also built a plan of attack for getting her as prepared as possible for her second test next Wednesday. She is doing really well in understanding new topics once they are explained in detail and after some practice. The more practice, the better, and she promises to do as much as she can before the test. I will prepare some practice test problems so we can create a strategy for answering them. We'll plan on getting through the key practice problems this weekend."
"We covered the final section of the material that will be covered on the student's test on Monday. This section covered the beginning of taking derivatives. We went through many examples showing the likeness between derivatives and tangent lines. She seems well prepared for her test."
"We went over derivatives of exponential functions as well as logarithms. He had no trouble when figuring out exponentials. Meeting with him consistently has boosted his confidence and he is doing much better both in class and on the homework."
"We reviewed the material for a test on Tuesday on limits, continuity, power, sum and difference rules, product and quotient rules, and business applications of the derivative. The student is on a steady pace to do well."
"We went over the product and quotient rules, as well as all of the extensive algebraic simplification that goes with them. More conceptually, we discussed the meanings of slope, tangent lines, and derivatives, and we did several problems to reinforce the relationships between these concepts. This culminated in a discussion of how to identify graphs of functions and their derivatives of various orders. I am going to do some personal homework to try to codify some potentially simplifying assumptions, which we will discuss at our Thursday meeting."
"I tested his skills on the principles of solving problems we have been working on; his confidence is stronger than it has ever been. We went over a complicated word problem and he knows how to set up the word problem now and how to solve it."
