How can Algebra tutoring help you succeed?
Looking for ways to try to help your teen get that algebra grade up? Concerned about your child's algebra test scores? Algebra is a sector of math that uses letters and symbols, known as variables, to signify quantities and numbers found in formulae and equations. Specific rules must be followed in order to manipulate variables, also referred to as "the unknown", in order to assign them with fixed values. Sounds slightly complex? Some students think so. That's why so many parents turn to professional tutors to help their kids learn the skills needed to tackle algebra. Varsity Tutors can connect you with a professional algebra tutor in Barrington, RI, who could teach your teen how to study effectively.
So, what's the purpose of algebra? It's used to try to help you determine the value of the unknown number(s) in a math problem. That means the student in your life will need to use formulas, which an algebra tutor could help your child grasp. Without such skills, the student could not do well in class, on standardized tests, or meet the requirements for the Common Core Algebra Standards. Your child's tutor will pay close attention to determine where downfalls may exist. Then, a custom-designed curriculum can be implemented to put more focus on trouble areas and less where your child is already doing well. One-on-one tutoring in Barrington can afford your child the ability to fine-tune their algebra skills by asking questions and getting immediate feedback.
Algebra helps students understand numbers better, while creating challenges for the mind. Learning from a tutor means your child could learn at a comfortable pace, instead of being expected to keep up with the paces of other students. This helps to keep stress low, and confidence up. Having no other students around means no distractions during sessions, and your child's needs remain the only focus. The tutor will put emphasis on teaching logic-thinking, problem-solving, and effective studying techniques. This could help to try to improve your child's algebra grade, and overall test scores, while maximizing study time. Plus, sessions are available night or day, at your convenience. The practice test took the student about 20 minutes to go through. I spent the next several minutes looking over his work and grading it. He scored about a 70% on this practice test. I reminded him that I intentionally made this test hard with lots of possible areas for getting tripped up. It's better to make any mistakes now and learn from them, than to be overconfident heading into the test and make mistakes then. We went through the entire test together and made corrections together. The main areas that the student made mistakes were in solving equations. He made mistakes with how to approach absolute value problems, and with remembering positive and negative answers for square roots.
I gave him a second copy of the exam that had alternate versions off the problems. I told him to use this to practice with again before the test on Thursday. If it focuses more on the graphical concepts of functions, I think the student will do very well."
