"The student had Algebra 2 homework to do tonight and worked on problems involving logs, graphs, series and sequence sums. He was able to do the problems nearly independently, but got confused a little with distribution and whether to add/subtract when isolating a variable. These skills will be strengthened the more he works on problem solving. We will meet again on Thursday."
"We finished looking at the Algebra II practice exam and discussed all the concepts covered in this course. We did not review in much detail due to the massive amount of subject matter. The student is confident in much of the material, and he learns new material quickly. He plans to go over the Algebra II practice exam and build questions for tomorrow's meeting."
"During today's session, the student and I worked on several pre-algebra concepts. We began the session with some practice with negative and positive integers. The student did well with this practice. She was able to answer 15 problems correctly in 2 minutes. We also completed a worksheet for order of operations. This proved to be difficult for the student. The problems which I gave her were a little difficult. They had fractions as well as other operations to solve. We also completed an activity to convert words to numbers. The student did well with this as well, just had some difficulty with the word "squared". At the end of the session, we began to discuss Heron's formula for scalene triangles. The student did well with this concept as well once she remembered the formula. For next week, we will work on word problems."
"In preparation for an upcoming final exam we studied sequences and series. As well as covering the concepts, we practiced solving problems from both topics, going over several strategies to solve them."
"Today we went over the curl, Stokes' theorem, line integrals, surface integrals, polar, and cylindrical coordinates. The student was very active in participating in the lesson. We will meet again tomorrow to go over some more problems that we have to solve."
"Today was our last session before the AP test, and we went over a variety of topics including vectors and their derivatives, calculating magnitude, and how it relates to the concept of speed. The rest of our time was spent on the logistic growth model, how to solve the differential equation, and how to use it to find particular values. I think the student will do just fine on the AP exam."
