Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued working on his history essay. We organized his notes, discussed topic sentences and found more info on the Greek debt crisis. He is supposed to start writing the essay on his own."
"We worked on the student's algebra skills. We worked on solving problems with a single variable and we worked on factoring equations. His algebra basics are lacking because he is able to do most of the problems that he sees at school in his head. He is able to understand the concepts though, and continues to do better the more and more we work on it."
"Today we went over the practice EOC test that I had the student work on in the last session. She needed some review on simplifying radicals, but she did a very good job in all of the other topics. I recommend that she goes over the EOC practice test #2 and does problems that she feels uncomfortable with. She was doing an awesome job on the problems for EOC practice test #1 and got all of the ones that we went over right all by herself! It was a pleasure working with the student. She is a very good listener and catches on to different styles of teaching very quickly and seems to be a very motivated student with a bright future."
"The student and I started the tutoring session with practice solving an equation using the substitution method. The student felt comfortable with the material and was able to complete the warm-up quickly. The student understands how to move a number or exponent to "the other side" of the equation. His skill in adding and subtracting negative numbers has improved. After we were done, we focused on the next method which is solving an equation using the elimination method."
"The student and I worked on determining the components of a vector. We will need to work through some more problems for him to fully grasp the concept, but he seems to have a good fundamental understanding of it. Tomorrow we will review matrices and go over vectors more."
"Today we reviewed problems that her teacher had assigned. These were on factoring polynomials. We reviewed factoring a difference of squares and factoring trinomials. The student mentioned to me that she had a math test prior to our session. She didn't think she did very well because she couldn't remember how to do the problems; I suggested she talk to her teacher as soon as possible and let him/her know that due to the changing schedule she didn't have the time period that she normally has to study and therefore wasn't able to prepare for the test and ask for a chance to retake the test or correct her answers."
