Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed solving quadratic equations, factoring, functions, and inverse of functions. The student just needs to go over all the concepts from algebra and pre-calculus to build a foundation before we jump into calculus. He has a very positive attitude and really wants to understand the material so he'll stop me whenever something doesn't make sense. I gave him some quick tips for factoring. I will send him a couple of worksheets so he can practice some of the algebra concepts we went over."
"During this session, we continued our work on derivatives. We finished the section on finding derivatives by using the general formula and moved on to learning the rules for finding derivatives of polynomials. The student is doing great with the new material and seems to be picking it up very quickly. Tomorrow we will continue learning various methods of finding derivatives of more complicated polynomials."
"We did an overall review of materials covered so far in preparation for a test. Covered anti-derivatives, implicit differentiation, chain rule, and L'Hopital's principle. The student now shows a good mastery of the material covered so far."
"We worked on area under the curve type of problems and figured out when to separate the integrals in order to eliminate the negative areas. We also discovered rules for integration methods and appropriately applied them to solve problems."
"The student did the whole large section on u-substitution, starting with high powers of quadratic function+constant, to reciprocals. I also presented the u' version of u substitution, where one never writes down the actual u integral. The student needs more work on the basics of u substitution. Suggested watching a video on u-sub and coming up with the questions tomorrow."
"This time the student and I spent the entire session doing various different problems dealing with finding the critical numbers of functions. Functions with trigonometry, polynomials fractions, exponentials, and natural logs were all present, and she has effectively learned the simple process to finding critical numbers. She did very well and at the end of the session we moved on to L'Hopital's Rule, which was simple enough to cover in twenty minutes."
