"The student and I began with practicing writing numbers neatly and facing the right direction. The few times I've seen her make mistakes were due to making 5s or 6s backwards and then confusing them with 2s. After that we discussed part of her homework for Monday. I introduced her to the thousands place and she practiced adding 4 digit numbers with the splitting method and the vertical method. She has more 2 more homework problems to complete before class on Monday. Her mother seems pleased with her progress and wants to begin introducing the student to new concepts in our sessions before they are started in school."
"We worked on a review of conic sections today, including parabolas, ellipses, circle, and hyperbolas. We talked about writing them in standard form with and without the center at zero. We also talked about their definitions and basic properties. I think the best thing to prepare for the test would be to study these equations in their standard forms and to go back over the review sheet that we worked through."
"the student and I covered functions of behavior in great detail; Inc., dec, extrema, concave up/down and inflection points were discussed. We took first and second derivatives including exp, log, trig, inv trig, and polynomial functions. We confirmed our answers by graphing. The student is proficient at taking derivatives, but needs to review the methods of function analysis."
