Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the definitions of Rational, irrational, real, and integers. The student has a great attitude about learning the math. He was struggling a little bit with simplifying complex square roots, so we went over those thoroughly, and he seems to have a much better understanding of these problems. I showed him a few different techniques to simplify some of the problems we were doing."
"The student and I continued working on Compass practice problems. We talked a bit about factoring, and also about rules of exponents. We spent much of the time working on rules of exponents and simplifying exponential expressions. The rules of exponents were fairly unfamiliar for the student, so we will continue to focus on rules of exponents."
"Worked on homework assignments in Chapter 8-factoring polynomials; bottoms-up factoring; and "FOILing". Provided the student with a slew of algebra homework problems that I completed for her from Chapters 6 & 7. Spent an hour and a half working those at home. The session this evening was 1.5 hours long. Set for a test review session tomorrow night starting at 6PM."
"The student and I worked on putting polynomials with complex zeros into standard form. We reviewed a previous exam and discovered that many of the missed problems resulted from simple sign and arithmetic errors. As such, our focus was on careful checking at each step and ensuring that all basic concepts within the more complex idea were addressed and understood."
"We completed her study island projects from the previous sections that she missed. I encouraged her to catch up on the unit tests and one remaining study island project before we being new units next week. Overall it was a good session."
"Exponents and Roots were reviewed. The student proved that he could work the most difficult exponent problems on Quiz 46 again with very little guidance. We discussed how to find square roots and cube roots. Also, the concept of Clearing Equations of Fractions was reviewed. Together, we challenged each other with an exponent problem that turns out to be rather lengthy and involved, and he loved the challenge!"
