Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student received a 92 on unit circle quiz. We reviewed law of sine and law of cosine concepts for upcoming test on Friday. We focused on the formulas needed based on the information given and problem setup. Student struggled with inputting information in calculator and getting correct answer due to lack of use and usage of parenthesis. We reviewed some techniques in calculator computation. We also reviewed word problems for breakdown in diagram calculations."
"We continued to cover trigonometric identities in pre-calc and momentum/ impulse in physics including vector addition of momenta in a 2D plane. With regard to trig, he sometimes struggled with applying algebraic manipulations correctly."
"We reviewed her homework in preparation for her quiz. We mostly talked about exponential growth and decay, as well as compounding interest. She fully understands the concepts, she just needs a bit more fluidity doing the problems."
"The only new material the student covered was graphing tangents, along with sine and cosine. He had the basic concept of how to graph tangent, and then we discussed how tangent moves with phase shifts. We did several problems with all 3 types of graph to make sure he saw the difference in the graph and equations."
"We took this session to work on homework dealing with arclength and area formulas for a circle as well as linear and angular velocity for regular circular motion. After defining what the formulas were and discussing how they related to known formulas, such as the circumference of a circle and velocity of a moving object, we worked out some simple problems using these formulas and some word problems involving arclength and areas."
"Tonight, the student and I worked through her unit 4 review sheet. It has been a number of months since she has done unit 4, but she was able to recall the concepts very well and quickly. She caught the majority of her mistakes and learned from the ones I pointed out to her. We then turned our attention to the larger review packet. We did the word problems and one 'tough' problem she picked out. She was able to work right through it. We discussed her finishing up the packet and really reviewing the concepts as she goes. She is doing a wonderful job and said today that she really likes problems that 'work out so nicely,' which was nice to hear!"
