Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered multiplication tables, long multiplication, long subtraction, simple subtraction, the number table, and rounding to the nearest tens and hundreds place. I gave her a strategy that multiplication problems must be treated like valentines. The number you multiply by must give valentines to all the other numbers. I told her to keep practicing her number tables."
"Today, we went over kite problems and parallelograms in a lot of depth. We went over strategies for proportions, and setting up more difficult problems. In addition, we reviewed study skills and test taking strategies to improve for her next upcoming quiz."
"During our session, the student completed a homework assignment as well as a worksheet assignment that is due in class later this week. Both assignments covered a wide range of topics from solving algebraic equations to critical thinking word problems. She did very well in today's session."
"We went over uniform convergence. He understood the concept but wasn't properly applying specific aspects in questions. I made him review all the definitions involved with the section, then we went over a couple of examples to make sure he could properly apply said definitions. When I felt he was ready, I had him do a couple of homework problems. The first couple of problems required my assistance to confirm his work and answers, but soon after he was able to efficiently come to accurate conclusions on the rest of the homework assignment. He left the session feeling comfortable in the section."
"This session I decided to work on the student's understanding of his teacher's most recent subject of geometric solids and their properties. His homework for this subject matter was sufficient in showing me that he has a solid grip on the shapes, nets, and their angles. In order to progress farther into this realm I brought volume calculation problems for these types of shapes as well as cylinders and cones. I also wanted to make sure the material we had covered for his last quiz wasn't left behind. We spent a bit of time reviewing angles, radians, their quadrants, and conversion between the units. He seemed comfortable toward then end with this subject but the review was helpful. Next week his class is moving onto pyramids and prisms, their volumes, and surface areas. I will bring more work for him on this material as well as answer any questions he may have about the homework."
"In our session tonight, we continued with factoring polynomials, specifically going over difference of squares. Included in the chapters we went over was some review on the properties of parallelograms and solving for angle and side measurements. Once she started checking her work, she was able to better recognize the pattern. She is going to finish her homework tonight so we can talk about any problems she has in our biology session tomorrow."
