Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over similar polygons and their sides and areas. We did assigned homework problems on this topic. We also went over algebraic rules. The student is to redo two of the problems herself and check her answers with the ones I left."
"The student and I went over concepts for her upcoming exam over special right triangles and sine, cosine, and tangent ratios. We went over the concepts together to ensure that she understood them well, and then went over some examples of each."
"The student scored a 97% on his last test, which was the highest in his class. He finished his homework over finding areas of parallelograms and triangles. He had a couple questions on how to solve the problems. I showed him that he has to use some of his previous concepts to find the missing pieces he needs to find the area. We then looked ahead at finding areas of trapezoids, kites, and rhombi, and did some practice problems."
"The student and I again focused on the underlying algebra for the geometric concepts. After practice, he stated he was starting to feel more comfortable with algebra."
"The student and I covered some tough material today for his geometry final. He's done a lot of work to prepare for the final and all that was left was the stuff he really has trouble with, specifically theorem converses, writing proofs of parallel lines, and proving triangles are similar or congruent. Although it was a tough session, I think he learned some things he had not figured out yet. I wish him the best of luck on his final."
"This was the student's last session to prep for her midterm exam. She finished the final practice test which consisted of "proofs." She needed some guidance on some of the proofs that involved segment addition and subtraction properties. She was able to complete most of the problems on her own. She continues to maintain her enthusiasm about the subject matter and is making progress in the area. She is feeling more confident in completing proofs problems on her own. We reviewed her graded practice tests (#1 & #2) that she completed on Tuesday. She should review and study the definitions, postulates and theorems. I suggested that she slows down when approaching problems and make sure that she reads each problem carefully. I believe additional tutoring sessions and studying time will help to improve her grades."
