Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through problems relating to integrals and antiderivatives. I went over the basic approach to various functions and gave him practice problems. I also left him with a few problems to do for next session to make sure he learns the concepts thoroughly."
"The student has a calculus test tomorrow on chapters 2 and 3, which include finding max, min, and concavity for functions, and differentiating using the product, chain, and quotient rules. She feels comfortable with finding the max and min using the first derivative and finding the concavity using the second derivative. She is able to easily apply the product and quotient rules, but has more difficulty with the chain rule. The last topic covered that will be on the exam is implicit differentiation, which we spent a lot of time practicing today. She still feels she needs some guidance on it, especially because it often requires using the chain rule. She will do the book problems on implicit differentiation to continue to study tonight. For all of the problems, we reviewed how to check answers using a calculator. When she made a mistake, she was able to check and see that the answer was incorrect and then find and correct her mistake."
"Today, the student and I did an in-depth review of the Taylor series. We discussed how to derive the series, recognizing patterns, the Taylor Polynomial, the error term and a brief review of relative extrema. She did a phenomenal job and had great insight with the extra credit assignment that she has to complete. I have no concerns from this session. She is a wonderful student!"
"We went over homework problems and a take home quiz on double integrals in polar coordinates. Certain aspects of this section can be tricky, but the student is handling them well. He still has a tendency to make minor mistakes, but he is catching himself more frequently which is great. I think that if he takes some of these problems slower, it will help minimize these kinds of errors."
"The student and I reviewed his homework for the evening. After working on his homework, he spent a little time on fluency practice on math. After he reached his goal of getting a green light on the math program, we continued working on his math homework for this week. He worked hard to solve the problems on his math page lesson 16-1. Overall, he was in good spirits and did what was asked today."
"We went through her algebra homework. It was about geometric series and their sum. We solved 5 questions on this concept and I explained how she has to solve this kind of questions. She understood how to solve them. Then we went through her chemistry worksheet for thermodynamic. We solved 4 questions on them. I showed her by chart how she has to calculate different heats in different questions. She needs to practice more on this concept. She is doing good."
