Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I wanted to make sure the student is caught up in class, so we practiced several challenging problems covering limits, discontinuity, and derivatives. She is now caught up and we will be covering related rates next."
"Today the student and I covered integration of rational functions. He did well and left the session confident in the basics of this topic. He has an important test coming up in the next few weeks, so it is important that he organizes himself and brings to our future sessions the areas that he needs to focus on. If he does that I think he will do well."
"During this session we went over the student's online assignment, which was on implicit differentiation, ln derivative identity, arc trig function identities, etc. The student has improved on product, and chain rule. Overall this session went well."
"In today's session, the student did some practice problems to prepare for her final this afternoon. We mostly covered related rates, as they are one of the more difficult concepts of Calc 1. That being said, she is doing much better than when they were first taught in class and when we first worked on them together. She is also solid in most everything else that will be on her final. I suggested that she complete any related rate problems last on her exam."
"We covered evaluation of limits and strategies for approaching them. I advised the student: If there are square roots, multiply by their conjugate; if there is more than one fraction, reduce that number down to one by cross multiplying and simplifying. We also covered the definition of continuity and the ways a function can be discontinuous, as well as the difference between a jump discontinuity and a point removal. We then covered the equation of tangent lines and how to find them, making sure to drill in the idea that derivative is slope. We finished by reviewing some complex examples of the chain rule, using variable substitution to simplify the equations."
"We went over local max and min, first and second derivatives, concave up and concave down, and some more integrals and derivatives. The student has improved from the last session so the sessions are helping him. He again is very positive and the session went great. We did a review of integrals and tangent line preparing him for his final. I think he has all the information he needs to pass. He is positive as always and I wish him a good luck on his final. I will always be here to help if he needs it. It has been a blast working with him."
