Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We did a review of previous information and checked for knowledge. Introduced 10 of 36 letter blends and did several activities with letter blends."
"During today's tutoring session, the student read the book "The Adventures of Snail at School." He decoded words very well, only getting stuck on names and some of the longer/ more difficult words (ex. "hurried," "baton," "handle"). For many of these words though, I would tell him the word once and he was able to recognize and read the word correctly upon seeing it again later in the story. After reading the book, I asked him questions about what happened in each part of the story. He was able to tell me what happened, but could not understand that the teacher in the story, Mrs. Harvey, did not really believe Snail's made up stories. After discussing what happened in the story, I had him tell me his favorite part of the story (when Snail rode the fire extinguisher and blasted off into space), and then write a sentence about it and draw a picture to match. He wrote, "I liked the red thing blasting off into space," and drew a picture. His writing was okay."
"The student and I worked on a reading packet that she had received as a homework assignment. I showed her strategies for skimming and looking for key words in a question that will help identify answer."
