"Student and I began by practicing Spanish vocabulary words to describe the weather using flashcards, a memory game, sentence starters, word sorts, and open-ended questions. Then we worked on English vocabulary homework by reading words from The Giver, looking them up, and creating a vocabulary tracker with the part of speech, the synonyms, the antonyms, the definition, and a graphic representation and memory cue for the word."
"Introduced three letter consonant blends in one and two syllable words. We read a passage about octopuses and answered questions for comprehension. We also reviewed two letter blends."
"Initial session - discussed with parent the student's current reading level, administered a few diagnostic tests (reading sections from a book and testing vowel/ consonant familiarity). He's mostly have trouble with differentiating i's and l's and b's and d's (which we practiced today and he demonstrated considerable progress), and reading words smoothly. We decided course of action would be to start with worksheets that review basic phonics and letter combinations and beginner's reading books before progressing to chapter books. With the student, we practiced long and short vowel sounds and how to read them (e.g., the silent e, vowel combinations, etc.). Went through about twenty to thirty words with practicing pronunciations as well as a bit of spelling and sentence making."
