Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we finished preparing for the student's vocab quiz. We also went over the verb decir and its conjugation. The student has done well and mastered the material, but is to go over it one more time!"
"During this session I reviewed the student's homework with him. He did well in the oral exercise but made some mistakes with articles. I asked him to correct his oral exercises in the future with articles in mind. He also did well in the preterite versus imperfect exercises, although he had some trouble deciding when to use the appropriate tense. We reviewed the rules for each. For homework I asked him to complete a few exercises about the preterite and imperfect tense and to prepare for an oral exercise."
"The student and I practiced some Spanish vocabulary he will need for a class field trip. Then, we reviewed grammar structures orally with different real life situations. He was able to do several of these functions well, such as introducing himself, discussing school/favorite things, discussing future plans and ordering food at a restaurant. I will use the results of this "assessment" to inform our future sessions."
"The student and I spent the first part of our session talking in Spanish. He is definitely improving in his ability to express himself in Spanish! I'm encouraging him to keep thinking flexibly, and to not depend on a particular word he may not know to say what he wants to say. We also looked at some of the homework he had done, and introduced a somewhat knew grammar topic - indirect and direct object pronouns. I assigned homework on both this and a few other small, mostly review, grammar concepts, including the contractions (del and al) and definite and indefinite articles."
"Today's session marked the beginning of our review for the final. I worked with the student on basic expressions, greetings, pronouns, ser, tener, haber, present tense, parts of a house, chores, adjectives, possessive adjectives, and colors. The student shows interest in learning Spanish, but she still struggles memorizing some basic words and verb conjugations. I always try to make her connect the new vocabulary with something she knows that is related to the new word or how it is pronounced. Her assignment is to study and try to memorize all the vocabulary words for our next session."
"I think this session went fine. The student really likes to play, so I want to start doing games with colors and numbers. I do see her listening and engaging."
