Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Focused on two difficult verbal passages related to the humanities and a biology passage related to plasma clearance. Talked about strategies for each type of question and implemented them. Went into deep analysis of answer choices, why correct ones were correct and why the incorrect ones should be ruled out. Discussed calendar for next few sessions."
"Today we worked on circuits, momentum, bond length, collisions and verbal reasoning strategies. I'm also sending her some resources for more verbal reasoning practice."
"Today we did a lot of verbal practice. I had him do one passage at a time while I timed him, so he could work on finishing faster. The goal is to have him be able to do each passage in about 8 minutes 30 seconds, and today he averaged around 8 minutes 50 seconds so he is getting close to the goal. We did 7 passages total, and he scored well on most of them."
"The student took her first practice exam this week so we spent the session going over the test. We discussed her getting ready for the exam in 3 weeks. In the meantime, she will continue practice passages on the verbal reasoning section, take practice exams, and focus on reviewing physical science topics."
"This was the first session with the student. During the session we reviewed some of the mathematics that is required for the exam. Some of the topics in math that we covered were magnitude and scientific notation. We also covered some concepts about fractions and algebra and did practice questions on the topics. He has been out of school for a while so he needed to be refreshed on some concepts. After finishing the session, I asked him to do some practice questions and to review what we had gone over during the session. There are no concerns from this session."
"We went over passages in the book concerning magnetic fields, DNA replication/ transcription/ translation, the cell cycle, and fluids. We also went over a few discreet questions that she sent me prior to go over. Overall, I thought that her performance in the biological passages was very good in general, but she demonstrated a noticeable weakness in the E+M and in the fluids passages. She had trouble applying the right-hand rule and also interpreting the formulas for the E+M and fluid topics. I instructed her to please review these concepts going forward and to complete the rest of the passages in this week's topics that we did not manage to get to."
