Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed his flashcards and he showed great improvement on word pronunciations and conjugations. We also worked ahead in his Spanish workbook. The student has shown great progress since I've started tutoring him. He has been a pleasure to work with."
"We reviewed grammar rules and identified different types of words according to their roots and accent."
"Vocabulary as usual, some basic conversation. Worked on writing with the student which he is improving on. The student knows close to 40 words now and is doing excellent."
"Today, the student and I first spent some time reviewing her vocabulary list since she has a quiz tomorrow. We used the list as a jumping off point to review some characteristics of Latin nouns and verbs. Then, we spent some time quickly reviewing the verb tenses (what we worked on last week), before moving on to the subjunctive mood. She seems like she is doing much better with recognizing verb tenses. We'll probably need to continue to focus on noun attributes and noun cases in the weeks to come."
"The student and I continued our work on the fundamentals of Latin grammar, looking specifically this week at case and agreement. We started with a general overview of how best to translate the cases in Latin and their forms. We also talked about agreement in Latin, specifically between verbs and their subjects and adjectives and the nouns they modify. From there, we moved on to working on some of her homework problems. I encouraged her to work through each sentence on her own, giving guidance but avoiding outright stating the answer. From there, we moved on to practicing sight translation. I selected a passage from a Learn to Read Latin book that focused on issues of agreement that was at her reading level. She did pretty well on the translation, but expressed that she was still feeling a bit unsure about adjective-noun agreement. To finish up our session, we talked for about fifteen minutes about adjective-noun agreement, and I gave her some tips on what type of material to review in order to feel more confident about the topic."
"The student and I had a terrific session tonight. She continued our review for her test tomorrow. The topics were reviewed were gerunds and gerundives, infinitives, and a few minutes on participles. I left her with the assurance she's going to do just fine on tomorrow's exam, that she knows this material backwards and forwards and the hard work she has put into mastering these (complex!) points of Latin grammar is obvious. Great job tonight!"
