Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the student finish her Geometry homework on SAS and SSS theorems. She needs to be more proactive with her Geometry learning. I expressed to her that even though her teacher may not be teaching the concepts very well in class, she should try to read through the examples in her textbook. Once we finished her homework I started reviewing fundamental Geometry concepts with her and it seems she may need a refresher session on the previous concepts learned before I started tutoring. The student had a tough time recollecting general proofs and statements. I assigned her 2 problems to work on before next session which involves looking up definitions on 2 theorems."
"The student wanted to look forward into Chapter 4 of her textbook, so we went through the chapter, which was discussing triangles. We talked about the different theorems proving triangles were congruent and how to use those theorems in proofs. We did a couple practice proofs using Side-Angle-Side. Then we looked at some of the practice problems from the chapter she had just covered about angle measurements in triangles."
"Today we worked on sections 2.3 to 2.6 in the students geometry textbook. We focused mainly on early proofs, recognizing what the properties are and how to apply them. The student made great progress on learning the difference between Detachment Theory and Syllogism Theory and how to use them appropriately. We also worked on several proofs and touched on reviewing two variable algebra. We spent some time focusing on the difference between Reflexive, Symmetric and Transitive Properties but if the student reviews that I'm sure he'll do great on his test this week."
"Today we started with Geometry. We discussed the differences between Angle Theorems and their Counter Theorems. We went over transversals, parallel lines, alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, vertical angles, skew lines, and corresponding angles. He did not have any current geometry homework, but the student is trying very hard to improve his grade in geometry. We also discussed the items that he needs to turn in this week (English essay), and then he completed his history homework."
"The student and I went through a SAT practice exam to prepare for the test this Wednesday. Then we practiced slope and equations for an upcoming quiz. The student performed well on the math portion. She seemed to have a hard time with some reading comprehension and vocabulary questions. However, overall her practice exam went well."
"The student and I worked on a review sheet that was given to her by her teacher to study for her midterm that is coming up. We reviewed slopes, inequalities, linear equations, and functions. The student seems ready for her midterm. She was able to overcome formulating systems of linear equations. We then did some proofs together. The student continues to improve at a steady rate."
