Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked very well today. He had a paragraph outline to complete for tomorrow. By the time I left, he had a topic sentence and a good idea of what he wanted to write for his supporting sentences."
"We discussed writing introductions, conclusions, and creating cohesion in an essay. The student struggled most with linking evidence to her topic sentences. We will continue to work on that. She, again, had a great attitude and worked very hard. We worked on revision and editing. I asked her to complete a rough draft of an essay before our next meeting."
"We started work on a new book project: African animals. The student used the library to find books about different animals that come from Africa. She is getting very good at bibliographic research!"
"We worked on use of -ing forms and infinitives. I will try to get the student some better information about verb tenses. We also worked with some vocabulary - words with "ious" endings."
"The student and I worked on his ongoing book report. He's just starting a new book (bio of Bill Gates) so we reviewed how he should actively read, underlining key plot points and info. We then worked on part I of an assignment identifying and defining various parts of a book: index, glossary, etc. Finally he went through a worksheet I'd brought: Part 1 - using apostrophes, Part 2 - building vocabulary."
"We practiced the next steps in SAT/ACT prep: the essay. We recorded notes from high scoring samples, prompts and guidelines, what suits best for a practice round and follow up, resources, and next steps."
