"Today, we went over the homework she completed. I showed her how to answer a couple questions. We also went over some math concepts, e.g. mean, mode, median, arc, etc."
"The student completed her practice test and we reviewed it. She was in the 750 range for math and could be higher. Reading comprehension and vocabulary were both around 650-670. I'd like to see these up around 700. For reading comprehension, she needs to continue to identify evidence in the passage to support her answers. On vocabulary, she's going to start with word roots, but we've also decided to start a reading project together, since that's the most organic way to acquire vocabulary. I told her to look at "Oliver Twist," "Jane Eyre," "Little Dorrit," and "Mill on the Floss" to see which appealed to her the most, and that we'd read it together."
"On Saturday, the student and I met to review her last practice test before she takes the SSAT on September 22nd. We reviewed the entirety of her most recent practice test and found that, while vocabulary is still her greatest challenge, she had improved markedly on the analogies section. As usual, her reading comprehension section was near perfect. Overall she has a really strong math mind, and I think as long as she can remain focused and not become daunted when the answer is not immediately apparent, that she will do a great job. It has been such a pleasure to work with her so far, and I wish her the very best of luck when she takes the SSAT!"
