"The student had her scores from her previous test back. She had gotten a 630 in reading and in English, and she had gotten a 450 in math. This gave her a total score about 200 points higher than had been predicted based on her PSAT scores. However, her math score was not much higher than the PSAT math score. She still needs quite a bit of practice with figuring out how to do the problems on her own, now that she has learned the academic components involved in them. We worked on math this entire session, and I had her work through many problems without any input from me. At the end of the session, she did seven problems by herself and got them all correct."
"The student and I focused on math and grammar sections. We went over how to find key words in the question to best answer the question. We also went over some math concepts, such as how to break down word problems into equations. We also worked on finding the subjects and verbs in the grammar questions."
"The student and I started with some math review, particularly in translating word problems, dealing with functions, and solving systems of equations. We talked about trying to set up an equation to let us solve word problems with algebra instead of guesswork. We also covered some error-finding problems. In particular, we handled a lot of problems on participles and participial phrases. By the end of that portion of the lesson, she had a very good intuitive sense on how to use and correct participles. We finished with some vocab questions, which she handled very deftly. She has a good vocab already and a good method for learning new words."
