Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I worked with the student to complete a reading comprehension assignment. He had already read the article in class but was given a series of questions to answer to prepare for a test on the material this past Friday. We went over SQR (Survey-Question-Read), he read aloud, and we discussed how to write a complete response restating the question. I taught him several techniques including listing the page number and paragraph where he found the answer for each question. I reviewed his responses for completeness as well. The last question required a detailed description so we discussed his response but first he and I discussed how tornadoes form using our hands to demonstrate how the different temperature air crash, swirl, etc. I taught him how to look for clues in the story title and subtitles to know what he was going to learn about. This story used punctuation and letter shapes to highlight the topic of tornadoes and we reviewed that technique as well."
"We reviewed r-controlled vowel sounds, rules for y at end of word and introduced new subject base words and endings. We had a review test to assess learning, and I went over his progress with his mother."
"We worked on the student's comic strip for social studies, then finished his quiz questions for the book he is currently reading in English."
