Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked more on getting the student to speak and put sentences together. I brought over a packet to help her put questions and sentences together on paper so she could see what needs to be done to have a conversation. Then we moved into phonetics so she could understand how to say these sentences correctly. We then read a text together and worked on her comprehension skills. She did very well with the comprehension part and her ability to put sentences and questions together are slowly improving."
"The student did homework on indefinite articles (un, une, de, des). Then we worked on translation of the opening paragraph to Camus's "L'etranger." Our focus was on pronunciation."
"Today we focused on conversation. We focused on basic questions and introductions as well as a few vocabulary words and their difference in masculine and feminine. We tried to do a balance of written and oral as the teacher emphasized that pronunciation was more important than spelling. The student had a very good grasp on the vocabulary and could tell me what everything meant. It was the pronunciation she struggled with a bit more. She aced all the fill in the blanks quizzes I gave her, and we also worked with flash cards which she wrote out in different colors to help out with memorization. She is a very good student, and had a very good attitude. By the end of the session she was pronouncing words she struggled with correctly every time like vous and comment allez-vous."
"The student and I had a great session tonight. We first worked more on the subjunctive, then we moved over to working on his persuasive essay. He is doing really well on mastering this complex, notoriously difficult grammar. Great effort tonight."
"Today we worked on description and proper use of vocabulary and grammar for the speaking part of the exam. Review all of your preposition of location: au dessus, au dessous, sur and boot verbs such as recevoir."
"It was our last session before the student's AP test. We went over some specific questions she had about grammar and then reviewed the conjugations for different tenses and the situations in which they are used. We also did a practice conversation and two practice verbal comparisons, all of which the student did very well on. I am excited for her to take the subject test and AP test, and I am confident she will do well!"
