Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was a good day. The student seems to understand the basics of theorems but still relies too much on pictures rather than what is given. SSS and ASA theorems were greatly pressed today and I think it's something she understands."
"The student did not have any assigned Spanish homework again so we focused on his Geometry homework instead. His new homework was on proving segments, angles, and triangle congruences. We focused on having him write down his answers slowly, legibly, and neatly so the teacher can understand his work."
"Reviewed objectives 6 and 8 on the web site. We reviewed the mini tests on objectives 6 and 8 in the book. We started to review missed questions but time ran out. For homework he is to complete a practice test (60 questions) in back of the book and send me the answer sheet by Tuesday."
"We worked on the student's homework over slopes in coordinate planes. She did very well. She then completed a Chemistry worksheet on isotopes and began making flashcards for her Vocab Workshop unit. I gave her an SAT geometry problem as a brainteaser, and she was able to solve it with just a few hints!"
"This session was to cover Geometry for the student . Covered proofs and theorems related to addition/subtraction property of equation, transitive property, reflexive property, explained vertically opposite angles, dissection of segments and bisection of angles."
"We worked on completing the student's geometry homework. He is currently working on proofs over triangles and circles. He is doing very well with the assignments he has been receiving in geometry class and can complete more of the proofs with only occasional guidance. After completing his geometry work, we did some work on getting his research paper organized and his bibliography put together."
"Today, the student and I continued examining triangle congruence. He showed clear improvement, getting a lot of work right on his own or with minimal prompting. He's started remembering how the theorems work."
"Today session went well. We worked on a review exam for his geometry class, and prepared him for his makeup exam which focuses on different angles and midpoints. I saw his grades and he is very close to passing his class. He is starting to get more organized and successful. He is still working on completing his vocab and equation list."
"Since the student had a quiz in class today, we worked on some past math concepts. She seemed to understand them better when we finished. I want to continue working on the topics so that she can recognize them even if they don't look the same in each problem."
"The student and I met from 7:15 - 8:45. He has a test on Tuesday and we had moved our session to Monday to accommodate reviewing for the test. The review worksheet covered Congruent Figures and Triangle Congruence. He has improved on his proofs and should be ready for the test."
"The student has her unit 4 test on Wednesday so we focused on studying for that. She did not bring her review problems home with her, but we worked off a few worksheets she still needed to finish from class and some problems I made up for her. She is doing really well with problems involving finding the value of a variable using mid-segments, medians, altitudes, bisectors, centroid, etc. I wanted to focus on the areas that she was not as strong in, which was the coordinate problems. Compared to last Thursday, she did much better with picking out the important parts in order to write the equations of medians, altitudes, and perpendicular bisectors. It appears that she is starting to comprehend what each of those segments do to a side of a triangle. After we finished problems, we made a step list for each type of problem that she can use to help study. If she studies this and has her formulas memorized, she should do just fine."
"During this session in geometry, chords, secants, radii, and triangles inscribed within circles solving for an unknown side/variable using the Pythagorean theorem was reviewed. In chemistry, the electromagnetic spectrum and basic atomic theory was reviewed."
