Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the first student finish his social studies project. I then worked with the second student on Mandarin. We reviewed all the vocabulary I'd given him up to this point, and he did pretty well. I gave him a few new words to learn (such as family terms), and we practiced conversing in Chinese."
"The student and I went through materials that she had covered in class but was introduced to new vocabulary such as "long time no see", "how many people are in your family?", "or..?", and "also" and all inclusive adverbs."
"-Reviewed previous lessons. -He is done with pinyin. -Taught him time vocabs(morning, evening...etc.). -Started teaching him nature vocabs. -He doesn't have an accent -Fast learner!"
"Covered 'mastering Chinese-for beginners' chapter 4 -- how to apologize. The student did very well and got the gist of using the different expressions in various scenarios."
"We went over the book that the student provide from Ch 1 to 6. In additional we also work on the workbook from Ch 1 to 5. I assigned him some vocabulary words to study over the week and we will keep continue next week."
"The student has a test coming up regarding translating a few sentences into Chinese. We went through them on the whiteboard. Then she expressed difficulties in relating the pronunciation to the written word. I gave her some tips on it. She was a bit shy at the beginning, but really opened up toward the end of the session. I also went over some studying skills, such as flash cards, with her. We will meet again tomorrow night to go over potential questions that could be on the test. I expressed my admiration that she has stuck with it for so long and encouraged her not to give up. I consider this is a very good section and am looking forward to the next section with her."
