Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, I got to know the student, determine her strengths and weaknesses, and discuss with her and her parents her goals for our tutoring sessions. She is a good student with strong conceptual skills. When presented with higher level concepts, she excelled. Her parents feel that she can make higher grades than she currently is, and I agree with challenge and repetition this is quite attainable. To this end, we will be working heavily on increasing her speed and memorization of basic facts as well as reviewing general 5th grade concepts for her retention. Finally, I will begin introducing her to some 6th grade concepts to provide her with a familiarity with them. Currently, I am putting together a short list of goals and daily homework for her which we will go over during our next session."
"Today was a great session due to the student's willingness and enthusiasm. We worked on analogies; part/whole and objects/action. We discussed what are various parts that make up a whole, also describing an object and the action of that object. This was to activate his thinking. This activity also allowed for him to write words, learn new words and patterns of words that he is not to sound out. We worked on sequencing and following directions. This activity allowed him to retell the story and engage with the passage; looking back and locating the information within the paragraph. He also completed a Simon Says activity; following a set of directions. He was excited to tell his mom about all the things he learn today. He keeps me motivated and I enjoy working with him."
"We develop strategies for making question, answer question using structures learned. We practiced basic greeting, how to introduce people, to tell and ask questions about peoples' name and surnames. We used quantities words- two, learned location of names and surnames on Chinese. New vocabularies to build sentences. Home work is to use workbook practice Ch.2 to Ch 4. Oral presentation next lesson ."
"The student had a good session today. He needs to continue practicing applying the material about kinetic energy to different scenarios. Luckily he seems very motivated to work and get better. I will have many more practice materials for the next session."
"Today was an excellent session. We picked up right where we left off, and moved from explaining how atoms exist in molecules to describing the properties of chemical bonds. We then covered the concept of polarity and began to move into how molecules interact with each other. The student's strong study skills are evident in her note taking. She was a lot more confident this week. The desire to improve her scientific writing and explanations is awesome. I asked that she attempt to define the 4 types of intermolecular forces for next session, so we could start to apply the concept to specific cases. I'm very happy with her energy and focus."
"We worked through the students study guide for their exam worked on interpretation of the logit estimation--how a logit works, why we need to be weary of using logit values out of an estimation without converting them. Next we discussed model specifications--over, under, fully specified and what parsimonious models are. Lastly we discussed scheduling for the remainder of the term."
