"We used some professional football player's field goal percentages to analyze the relationship between equations, graphs, and tables of paired values today. The student did very well, and I think on Thursday, I will reward his patience and attention by letting him practice simple calculations (like conversions, and multiplying decimals) and time him. He seems to enjoy that quite a bit."
"We went through his homework on slope. He had trouble reading the graphs, but that was mostly due to the small pictures. We talked about picking points out of the graphs to put into the slope formula instead of trying to count on the coordinate grid."
"Today, the student and I reviewed polynomials in both standard form and factored form. This included the Zero-Product property, determining x-intercepts, and determining the vertex of a model function. We also covered graphing and exponential decay functions. He did a very good job today and understood all of the information during our session. We completed several practice problems to make sure that he had learned the material."
"The student worked on algebra. She worked on substituting variables in algebraic equations with specific values, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers with same signs and with opposite signs. We used the number line as a key to understanding operations involving adding and subtracting numbers with opposite signs. We also worked on inequalities; absolute value; and definitions of rational and irrational integers and whole, real, and natural numbers."
"We worked on obtaining a system of equations through a graph. The student struggled to remember the appropriate formula, but after a couple of examples, he got it. Then, we worked on obtaining an inequality system of equations from a graph. But first, we reviewed how to graph inequalities. I left 4 problems for homework."
"We did a review of determining the slope/intercept equation using 2 points, 1 point, and a slope and different properties of lines. We also practiced plotting lines and shading in the area that is greater than and less than the area determined by a given equation. We will do more practice problems regarding that."
