Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session was used to discuss thermodynamics. We covered enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy. We then talked about how the Gibbs free energy and equilibrium constant are related and how entropy can be predicted based on phase changes as well as gas molar changes. We finished by looking at how nonstandard conditions can be used to find the nonstandard Gibbs free energy. The student did a very good job with the new material and was able to predict which equations to use when answering questions. I hope to review the material in our next session by going over practice problems, as well as the clicker problems gone over in class. We also plan to start chapter 20, which will be the final chapter to be covered on the next test."
"Review of lesson 4 and 5 of Chemistry 2 covering such areas as Boyle's Law, Ideal Gas Equations and other concepts involving pressure and temperature. Conversions among pressure units such as kPa and atm. Balancing equations and altering reactants to drive the equation in a different way. Answered the 30 questions as the end of the lesson."
"Today's session finished up all the review necessary for the student's midterm exam. I suggested that she use the course's online flashcard resources to brush up on vocabulary and work through the many theorems we have covered to date. The student shows good understanding of the subject matter."
"The student is doing very well at stoichiometry! I encouraged her to write things down, even if she thinks she's got it, simply because there are many steps. She was able to get the correct answer most of the time."
"The student had a test on Tuesday that she needed to prepare for. The topic was charge, and circuits. When I met with her she hadn't gone very far into the material in class and wanted to look ahead. I showed her the technique used to solve circuits for both series and parallel, and most of the other problems she was able to manipulate a formula to understand."
"The student and I reviewed her materials over thermodynamics. We reviewed the differences between enthalpy, entropy, and free energy. We reviewed the equations associated with each and addressed each problem. She maintained an excellent attitude throughout the session."
