Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was my first session with this student. We got to know each other a bit, and figured out his goals for his ACT work. He took a practice ACT last year but doesn't remember much about the structure of the test, so I gave him a brief overview of the test format and what to expect as far as the content of the test. Then I assessed his current position by testing him in short sections of the test. I also had him write a practice essay. So far, I think his biggest challenge will be time management and speed. Next session, we will work on the English and Reading sections of the test in greater depth."
"We briefly went over the critical reading homework from last time, and the student's results were excellent. He missed only two of the questions. Because his verbal game is so strong, we spent the remainder of the time focusing on math. Despite his relatively strong arithmetic and algebra skills, he keeps missing relatively simple questions due to his inability to focus on what the question asks for. I hammered home the importance of understanding exactly what the question asks for. It saves so much time and energy, and he is already doing most of the necessary work correctly. It is a real shame when he does all the math correctly, but misses out on the question due to a reading error. Hopefully he remembers the emphasis I put on the topic, but we will keep at it right up until test day."
"The student and I worked through medium-hard questions in several math practice test sections, did short and long passage comparison duos, completed and edited a sample essay outline, and also reviewed vocab strategies. We will meet again in two weeks."
