"Completed a modified class assignment. Wrote methods to set the height and balance of each node in the tree and printed out the tree. Modified the print tree method call to print the tree without the last nodes overlapping."
"This project is quite a complex one. It builds off of the previous homework but involves an implementation of the Mandelbrot fractal. After deciphering what the assignment actually entailed, we made steady progress. The project isn't due until the 20th, so we will meet again to put the final touches and perform testing/debugging."
"We went over the student's current assignment, implementation of a bucket sort. We talked about a calculation to decide what bucket data was suppose to land in. We worked through a few problems with the build process in Visual Studio. We also reviewed how we would communicate on future assignments."
"Today was a slow start for the student and I. The session began with several minutes of tracking down the correct code for the assignment on understanding chatbots (programs designed to hold a conversation with a person). The bulk of the session came in the form of us working through the logic of chatbot's keyword search function. This took nearly the entire time, as the function was fairly complex and required a lot of understanding. Luckily this was the only part of the assignment that I could help the student on any way, as the rest of the assignment required that he actually run the program and interact with the chatbot himself. He says that he will be doing that during his class tomorrow and should be on track to turn the assignment in on time."
"The concepts covered included classes, fields, member methods, inheritance, constructors, superclasses, and overriding/overloading superclass member methods. We worked on a lab assignment that the student had to turn in which was similar to a previous lab assignment where she had to construct a Student class to represent college students, and in this case the Student class had to inherit from a Person class. The student maintained a positive attitude toward the material and showed a genuine desire to learn."
