Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I spent the entire session going over algebra. I made problems for her to complete and walked her through how variables work in terms of what they are doing in the equation. We worked on being able to move different aspects of problems to either side of the equation, how to solve for X, and how to put the equation into the standard linear form. I left the student with a few problems to work to help her get comfortable with the material. Additionally, next time, I will bring a more visual representation to explain what is going on when she is solving for X or what it means when you have a value for X and you have to plug it into the equation. The student reported that she got a very high score (near 100%) on her world history test, and she also did very well on her biology quiz."
"Today, the student and I reviewed her online assignment for math. She had to solve for systems of equations and determine if the lines met once, more than once, or not at all, as well as determine if the slopes were parallel, perpendicular, or neither."
"We went over problems which focused on graphing (determining the slopes) of perpendicular lines. We then went over concepts of stem-and-leaf plots and box-and-whisker plots. I wrote up a bunch of problems and had the student practice coming up with the mean, median, mode, range, the stem-and-leaf, and the box-and-whisker plots for a given list of numbers. We then did practice problems involving graphing, putting equations in y=mx+b, calculating slope given the coordinates of two points, etc. I left him with 9 problems for homework."
"We reviewed several things to start our session yesterday. We worked on questions from basic algebraic equations and inequalities. I watched the student complete the problems in order to judge his understanding. He knows all the information and really only needs reinforcement of the ideas."
"Reviewed slope equations and manipulation and reviewed inequalities. Will likely schedule a Sunday session soon for both students to practice and review Pre-algebra and various Algebra concepts."
"The student and I went over information for her upcoming quiz and test. We went through problems on the review sheet her teacher had provided including solving inequalities with and without absolute value, graphing those inequalities and solving word problems using inequalities. We also discussed strategies to help her excel on her upcoming quiz and test."
