"The student and I did our usual routine, but also began to think about introductory paragraphs. She struggled a bit with connecting what she was thinking to what she should actually write. We will correct this next week."
"We finished chapter 7 in Ramona...only 2 chapters left in the book! The student read very fluently and comprehended the majority of what was read. Then we did a brief writing assignment where she was to relate to the story. I gave her the option to finish the assignment on Sunday if she preferred, but she chose to complete it during this session. Once she put her mind to it, she did quite well. Overall it was a good session and she continues to show growth!"
"The student and I spent a good portion of this session in discussion in Spanish. She worked on exercises related to past verb tense. We also talked about some of her lingering concerns with specific speaking skills so that I can find more activities which are tailored to her needs."
"We always review homework and the student makes corrections, then we do a series of 5-10 minute activities covering word recall, word searches based on a topic, verb tense (currently present progressive) and one special topic in parts of speech. We do sentence correction, paragraph correction and then work on conversation based on a topic like my favorite food or piece of clothing. We then finish with reading comprehension and a game if we have time."
"The student found 7 unfamiliar words from his lit club reading and wrote out definitions for 5 of them. I helped him with his penmanship and spelling. I also had him do some reading out loud from a book of his choosing (since he was already done reading the lit club assignment)."
"The student had a great session. We read three short stories and answered questions about them, focusing on identifying exactly what the question is asking for, using words from the question to help turn the answer into a complete sentence, and looking for answers in the text instead of trying to answer from memory. He also did excellent 3-sentence and 5-sentence summaries of the stories that we read, with no prompting or cues. These summaries included all of the important actions and were very well done. His stamina is improving, and he is able to concentrate for longer periods of time than he could when I first started working with him. It was an excellent session."
