Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed in detail the stories "Catherine" and "Charade." I also gave feedback on a number of other stories."
"The student completed several sample essays, using 5-paragraph organization and citing sources. We worked on grammar (their/they're/there) and verb tenses."
"For our first session, the student and I spent the first few minutes getting to know each other. Eventually, we began talking about a comic strip we both enjoy. I had him develop a comic strip to show his grasp of story structure, and we finished by going over his spelling words for the week and some vocabulary. His only homework for the week until we meet again is to read and write whenever possible. The more exposure he has to written words, sentences, and stories, the more he'll retain and the more he'll intuitively grasp about structure, grammar, and other vocabulary concepts."
"We looked closely at writing techniques and staying on topic regarding the vantage point from which his paper was written. We drafted some sections together. His homework was to finish the paper."
"Today's session continued to focus on decoding. One of the skills we worked on included having the student listen to his voice as he read to make sure what he's saying makes sense and if it doesn't, independently going back and rereading to try and correct the mistakes. We will continue to work on these skills during our next session."
"The client is working on his comprehensive exam for his doctorate. Mostly, he wants help refining his writing style and ensuring that he is following the proper format and answering the questions clearly. He is providing writing samples and we're critiquing them together so that they will be a clear and succinct as possible."
