Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"It was our first session, so we got to know each other better, asked questions, and then started covering reading materials."
"Student 1/ fractions and mixed numbers, reducing fractions Student 2/read aloud, predicting and author's purpose"
"The student indicated that comprehension has been a problem for her. Using a Reading Skills book for 5th grade, she read a story aloud. Then she answered questions related to the story. She did well, so we will move to the 6th grade book. In Grammar, she wanted to learn about double negatives. She created a flash card with a definition, did the lesson, and we discussed them in detail. I spent time getting to know her."
"The student had a "hidden numbers" worksheet for homework, so we practiced some strategies for determining the missing numbers before completing the worksheet. There were quite a few problems on the sheet, so it took up the majority of our session. I kept her on task by making each row of problems a "level" and she would become a master of each level once she completed it. I've found that rewarding her with praise once she does something is a good incentive for her. She has been a joy to work with the past few sessions. I am very proud of her attitude and progress lately."
"The student and I focused specifically on preparing for her social studies test on the development of transportation in our state. She practiced with vocabulary words and comprehension of the social studies textbook. She will just need to review what we went over and the second half of the chapter before her test on Friday."
"We did a vowel-sound worksheet to practice CVC words, and I had the student write out the full word next to the picture. Then we worked on sight words with activities where he had to trace the word, write the word, cut out the letters and glue them onto the sheet, and make up a sentence with the word in it. Then we played sight word bingo, read a few books with rhyming words, and reviewed using the sound blending cards. He is doing great! He talked much less during this session. I can tell his reading is improving, and he did very well with the sound blending cards."
