Recent Tutoring Session Reviews

"The student and I met for a session of GRE tutoring. We started going over her new book. She did okay on the diagnostic test, but still had plenty of room for improvement. In math we focused on ratios, permutations, and combinations. We also did vocab practice. Overall she is a hard worker, and that will serve her well in her preparations."
"The core of our session was devoted to a Diagnostic Test. Since we have a limited amount of time and the GRE is a computer test, a practice test was not feasible during our very first session. Instead, I gave the student a set of questions from each of the kinds of questions given on the GRE: Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence, Reading Comprehension, Problem Solving, Numeric Entry, and Quantitative Comparison. She appeared to handle the questions well as she was taking the test, and went through everything in a confident manner and with a solid pace. As we began to go over the test, it was clear she does not have an issue with the vocabulary or the math covered on the GRE. Instead, she needs to learn the specifics of how the GRE formulates questions and test-taking strategies. Fortunately, this means my initial plan on how to work with her on the GRE is the best method for us to approach her tutoring."
