Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over redox reactions, definitions of oxidation and reduction using oxidation numbers and loss or addition of electrons. We also covered balancing half reactions and redox reactions. We also reviewed types of electrochemical cells."
"Student received a 89 on recent quiz. We conducted practice with net ionic equations and balancing chemical equations. Writing equations from words and vice versa. In addition, completing the appropriate nomenclature. We also conducted some online practice problems with geometry (congruency and similar triangles)."
"We covered his most recent lab assignment, including wavelength and frequency calculations and the electromagnetic spectrum. We covered the homework that has so far been covered in his class, including wave and particle theories of energy, the electromagnetic spectrum, the Bohr model, and changes in energy levels of electrons. We then went back and reviewed problems relating to enthalpy and worked through some additional practice problems. Student is planning to complete the remaining Ch. 5 enthalpy problems in his book prior to our next session."
"The student and I reviewed for his state assessment test. He has improved on ecology subjects. For his last test, on the short-answer he scored a 97, and a 98 on his post-test."
"In our first meeting, we reviewed the course syllabus for Biology 104 and planned out week 1 and 2 subtopics to prepare in each of our upcoming sessions this week. As far as today's content, we reviewed basic cell structure and individual organelle function. The student completed the review questions listed by her teacher under this topic. Our next meeting will be Wednesday evening, when we will cover "Meiosis and Development" and "DNA Structure and Replication." I've asked that she review the course notes for these subtopics before our meeting and email me any initial questions that she has so that we can more directly address points of concern when we meet. It was a pleasure meeting her, and it seems to me that she is motivated to spend time with the material and to do well in this course. I look forward to our next session!"
"Reviewed the tide pool lab write up for her class. Organized the field data and went through the setup on how to graph relevant data onto an Excel spreadsheet and which graph format to use for presentations. This was a great session in which she can be more comfortable in putting field data into chart form."
